LinkedIn Posts – Consistency is key!

Here I share how I put together LinkedIn posts for Henderson Thomas Associates as they have been very effective and are easy to carry. I also hope this helps others out there to increase revenue and increase positive associations their business.

Let’s Begin

It only takes a second for your Social Media updates to have impact or be dismissed, therefore to give your posts any chance of attracting attention you want to make them clear, consistent and relatable to your industry.

In this article you will see a snapshot of a post a while back I posted for Henderson Thomas Associates and how I put the company’s posts together. This format can be used on any Social Media account where you are uploading content and media to attract new customers and keep existing customers engaged.

5 Primary Pointers

1. Ensure it is Relatable
All your updates must be related directly or indirectly to your industry or services, everything else is spam. You also run the risk of engaging with the wrong audience which is a waste of time and effort.

2. Be Enthusiastic.
When talking to your friends and family about your business you are not in a selling frame of mind. You are talking about how your business will change the world and how your customers have a better life for using you, in essence you are enthusiastic.
This is how all your Social Media interactions should be. If you are not enthusiastic about our business, you cannot expect anyone else to be.

3. Don’t make everything about you
Pepper updates about your products and services with posts about industry related news, free advice, events, memes, literally anything that you come across that will make people smile, think and feel better for seeing it.
As long as it is industry related and of value the positive emotions your viewer feels will be attributed to you and your company.

4. Don’t make people hunt
If you have a Blog article, further reading, an external link et al that you wish viewers to visit, ensure you give them something first.
For example, if you have a Blog with ’10 Best Ways to Get Hired” give the reader the first one or two of these on your post, they will be more likely to click through if the can pre-see the value of your content.

5. Your new Social Media re-frame question.
People are drawn to those who make them feel better AND as such people are drawn to Marketing that makes them feel better. Therefore putting a positive emphasis on your marketing material and personal interactions can do nothing but skew their opinion of you and your business in your favour.

“Is what I am about to create, going to make my potential customer feel good?”

If the effort of evoking positivity feels irrelevant to you, ask yourself who you would spend your money and time with; those who make you feel good or those who drain your energy?

An example of how to layout an effective post

Highlighted are 7 main elements that if you adopt your updates will become more attractive to your viewers.

LinkedIn Post Template Example

The numbers on the above and their meaning.

1. Always have an Introduction Line.
This can be a statement or title, but ensure these words are no longer than one line and also check your mobile version and reduce where necessary.

2. Continued Content.
Follow on content must be spaced away from the Introduction Line for clarity and making your Introduction Line stand out and the rest of the content easy to read. Content is better if it is short and to the point.

3. First Hashtag.
Instead of grouping all your hashtags together why not make a feature of the first one, if possible, make it humorous or a play on words as above, remember the aim is to create a positive vibe with the reader.

4. Further Hashtags.
Create hashtags that are relevant to the post and to your industry, consider what is being shown in any images or videos that can add to your hashtag list.

5. Final Hashtag.
Add your company name, abbreviation or tagline as a hashtag, this keep these posts related to your business, again put these on a separate line.

6. Images & Video.
Whatever media you add to your post there is one rule, ensure it is related directly or indirectly to your business or industry. Everything else is just spam.

7. Engagement.
Everyone wants high numbers however always bear in mind Stats are Vanity, Conversion is Sanity. If you are getting interest and sales with low numbers of engagement that is far better than high number of engagement with no discerning difference to your bottom line.
NB The figures on the above post are the highest to date, however HTA often receives 5 and 6 figure work directly from posts with very little engagement. Not everyone will respond publicly to a post, so always ask what initiated the contact.

*A final note on contact details or links to your business*
You will notice that the above does not have any links to a Website or Blog or even a phone number or email address. It is not imperative that these are on every post, remember your aim is to positively engage with the visitor and not look like you are selling.

When you create a positive return in the mind of the viewer they are more likely to have a look at who you are. Pushing your details in their face will not suddenly create an interest in you if your post content has not done so. In fact doing so could even reverse an initial positive impression of you into a negative one.

More often than not, where you post an update your name and company details are most likely wrapped around the your post or accessed by an avatar link, strike a healthy balance, just refrain from “sell, sell, look at us, follow us, read more, sign up, get in touch” on every post.
