Marketing – know what you are buying

Be careful when buying Marketing

We are potentially talking semantics; however, it is important that we are clear on what we mean by ‘marketing’ especially if we are paying a 3rd party to ‘market’ our business and they must be clear on what they mean by the ‘marketing’ they are charging us for.

For clarity:

“Marketing is an intellectual, creative approach that ignites a positive association within another.
It is not the mechanics of how to use a platform, nor is it the strategy.”

Anyone with experience can teach us how to ‘use’ a social media platform but not everyone can teach us how to market effectively. This is because effective marketing requires an understanding of human behaviour;

“…because when we know why people do what they do, we can market more effectively and influence more creatively.”

The same can be said for a Social Media strategy, this in itself is not ‘marketing’.

In summation and as always, we must know what we need and what we are purchasing; is it the mechanics, the strategy or the marketing. Choose wisely, it’s your money and your business after all.

N.B.
Reaching more people with ineffective content is not going to help a business succeed.

► I don’t want to labour the point with ‘filler content’ and pie charts, so there you have it. However, if you would to know more just rattle my cage!
